Fuel Belt (Hydration Pack)

The selection of a good fuel belt is an important choice to make. It is also sometimes referred to as a hydration pack. Most runners will carry this belt during the training runs and some may perhaps choose to use it for the race as well.

How to select a fuel belt

The main factor to consider is a single bottle options as opposed to two to four smaller (multi) bottle option. The single bottle will carry all the fluid in one bottle and hence maybe heavy. Also, you will only be able to carry one type of fluid. With the multi-bottle option, the weight of the bottles is distributed around the waist. You can carry different fluids in all bottles. Another important choice to consider is the ease with which you can remove and attach the bottles while running. While this may seem obvious at first, it is best to experiment and see which brand works best.

Amphipod provides the option of having 2, 3 or 4 bottles. It is recommended to go with the 4-bottle option and remove one or more bottles if not required. To purchase the 3-bottle option and upgrade it later is an expensive option. You can always purchase the 4-bottle option and remove one or two bottles if needed.

Hydration pack accessory

Another accessory that comes with the hydration pack is the front storage packet or the pouch. The pouch must be able to carry a cell phone and 2 or more packets of gel. Never underestimate the importance of carrying a cell phone while running. You might get lost if you are ahead or behind your running group, you may get in an accident and trip your ankle or you may not feel good and be able to run. Carrying a cell phone with you gives you the power and ability to have the world at your fingertips. It is better to be safe than sorry.
